Kim Aumann – Visiting Fellow School of Health Sciences, University of Brighton, former Director of Amaze and co-founder of Boingboing
So let’s see – what might you find useful to know about me? I’ve set up, facilitated, delivered and managed different community based projects all of my working life, so I bring an eclectic mix of experience to my resilience work! Angie and I created the Boingboing Community Interest Company (CIC) in 2010, although we started working together around 2005. Back then, I was Director of Amaze, a Brighton based charity for parents of children with disabilities and special educational needs.
Having given resilience the once over, it felt to me that unless we could expand the evidence base to include practice application and translate it to make sense to parents and carers, then we were missing a trick – after all, they’re usually the ones doing the tough stuff 24/7. It’s important to me that the Resilience Framework is chock a block with tips and ideas for everyone to use and I think the community of practice approach is a really dynamic way of drawing on different knowledge bases to advance our thinking and tackle social issues and inequalities together.
Most of my work at the moment is with parent groups or practitioners working in the field. I’m a Visiting Fellow with the School of Health Sciences at the University of Brighton and strongly promote community university partnership working that promotes participation, inclusion, knowledge transfer and mutual benefit.
