Didem Aydogan – Visiting Researcher at the Centre of Resilience for Social Justice, University of Brighton

Since Semptember 2018, I have been a Visiting Researcher at the Centre of Resilience for Social Justice at the University of Brighton, and Boingboing, working with Suna Eryiğit Madzwamuse. Before I came to Brighton, I studied at Adnan Menderes University in Turkey. My study area is resilience, with an emphasis on family resilience. My focus is on families and couples who have a different risk group to those in Turkey.

I am funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and this visit to the Centre of Resilience for Social Justice and Boingboing will help me to explore new knowledge and develop my skills on resilience in the context of schools, especially the Academic Resilience Approach (ARA). I am planning to adapt the Resilience Framework and the ARA so that it can be used to work with socially disadvantaged schools in Turkey.

The Boingboing approach to resilience has provided me with new resilience knowledge and I have developed a new perspective on resilience. I am very excited to be developing a resilience strengthening programme, based on the Resilience Framework. When my project is finished in Brighton, I am planning on undertaking research and a project based on the Resilience Framework, looking at its use with youths and families, schools and communities in the Turkish cultural context.
